Join AAN leaders at the American Academy of Neurology and American Academy of Neurology Foundation Awards Luncheon as they honor the esteemed recipients of the 2007 AAN Awards. This event recognizes some of the top accomplishments in neuroscience research. Award winners hail from all over the globe and include enterprising high school students on up to world-renowned researchers.

Dame Julie Andrews, Announced as 2007 Public Leadership in Neurology Award Winner

The AAN and its Foundation will honor celebrated entertainer DameJulie Andrews at the 2007 AAN Annual Meeting with the Public Leadership in Neurology Award for her support of research into treatments and cures for hereditary diseases such as Huntington chorea.

Julie Andrews has been a beloved and much-honored star of stage, screen, and television for more than half a century. She made her feature film debut in 1964's "Mary Poppins," winning an Academy Award^®. She earned subsequent Oscar^® nominations for "The Sound of Music" and "Victor/Victoria."

Andrews recently appeared in "The Princess Diaries," and "The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement." She voiced the character of Queen Lillian in "Shrek 2," and the upcoming "Shrek 3." Her earlier films include "The Americanization of Emily," "Hawaii," "Thoroughly Modern Millie," and "10."

A child star in her native country of England, Andrews made her Broadway debut in 1953 in the musical "The Boy Friend." On stage, she created the role of Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady," and Queen Guinevere in "Camelot." Andrews returned to Broadway in 1996 to star in the stage adaptation of "Victor/Victoria." She directed a 2005 revival of "The Boy Friend."

On television, the entertainer won an Emmy Award for her variety series, "The Julie Andrews Hour." She is also a best-selling author of several children's books.

Andrews was honored as a Dame of the British Empire in 1999, and was a 2001 Kennedy Center Honoree. She serves on the Board of Trustees of the Hereditary Disease Foundation.
