These are the five nominees for Greatest Living Briton, narrowed down by readers of the Sun from an initial list of candidates.

Sir Paul McCartney
Paul gained iconic status in The Beatles and later as a solo artist. He holds the Guiness World Record as the most successful musician and composer ever, with 60 gold discs and 100million singles sales.

Robbie Williams
Singer songwriter Robbie Williams began his musical career in Take That. He left in 1995 to go solo and has since sold more albums in the UK than any other British solo artist.

Baroness Margaret Thatcher
She was the first, and is to date the only, female Prime Minister of the UK. Baroness Thatcher led under the Conservative Party from 1975 to 1990.

Dame Julie Andrews
Dame Julie is a Bafta, Emmy, Grammy and Oscar winning actress and singer. She's best known for her much-loved roles in Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music.

Her Majesty The Queen 
Since her Coronation in 1952 Elizabeth II has won hearts and respect across the world. In 2002 she celebrated her golden jubilee and turned 80 last year.
