The hills are alive c with the sound of a scandal.
Dame Julie Andrews, known for playing such wholesome characters as Maria in "The Sound of Music," reveals in her upcoming autobiography that she is the product of an extra-marital affair.
To be released this month, the book describes how at the tender age of 14, her mother Barbara took the young singing sensation to perform at a male friend's house, and then revealed that this man was her real father. And for 58 years, Andrews kept the secret.
According to the book, her mother's affair was the result of a brief passionate encounter while still married to a teacher named Ted Wells. Barbara divorced Wells when Andrews was 4-years-old and then married Canadian entertainer Ted Andrews.
Despite the divorce and revelation of her biological father, the 72-year-old Andrews writes that Wells - who had known the truth all along - has always been the man she loves as her father.
